About the Role



Teranet is currently looking for a Manager, Data & Analytics. You will own and oversee the team in the data lifecycle from sourcing, to pipeline and model development, through to analysis, insights, and products. The Data & Analytics team within the Financial Solutions line of business has an ambitious mandate, where we are accountable for leveraging Data & Analytics to deliver business value both internally as well as to external clients.We do this in partnership with Product leaders, enhance existing or create new products and services with proprietary data assets and/or partnering with external data providers.

In addition, this team will play an important role in evangelizing and educating the value of Data & Analytics to the rest of the organization, in support of cultivating a data-driven culture.



What You’ll Be Doing



Manage production cycles for core data products (20%)

  • Ownership of monthly and quarterly production cycles for key data products
  • High degree of diligence and attention to detail to ensure quality of data products published to clients
  • Troubleshoot production issues in an efficient and effective manner to minimize client impact
  • An optimization mindset to develop and maintain the most efficient and effective infrastructure and process for production
  • Active partnership with Product leaders and external partners to deliver the best experience and product to end users


Manage Analytics R&D portfolio (30%)

  • By virtue of R&D work, each request or issue will be new and not encountered before, and will require innovation, resourcefulness, collaboration, and understanding of business to achieve the respective objectives
  • Ensure data and analytics solutions are accurate, relevant, comprehensive, and delivers business value to stakeholders
  • Assess data and analytics requests from internal and external stakeholders and clarify requirements as needed
  • Assign to the appropriate team member; provide overall direction and guidance throughout project lifecycle
  • Monitor progress, manage deliverables, and communicate regularly with stakeholders
  • Collaborate with IT partners through communication of requirements, review of options and solutions, tracking of development progress, and quality review of outputs
  • Will be required to manage a large portfolio of projects all with varying requirements and competing timelines that will require prioritization, negotiation, and evaluation with stakeholders


Manage data assets curation and maintenance, data contracts and partners (30%)

  • Own and manage the maintenance and curation of data assets to optimize business value enterprise-wide.
  • Requires a high degree of understanding of business problems in order to curate data assets that optimize business value
  • Requires an innovative mindset to identify data assets (potentially from non-traditional data sources) that will add value
  • Effective communication and presentation skills in engaging with external suppliers


Team performance, growth and development (20%)


  • Management duties for a team of data professionals
  • Support each team member’s growth and development
  • Provide direction and support for assigned projects, while empowering team to develop their own plans and approaches
  • Cultivate an innovative team spirit, by challenging the status quo, openness to new technologies and approaches, and an experimentation mindset


What will you need to be successful?


You are someone who:


  • Is keen to understand the business – data analytics cannot be done in a vacuum – we need to be close to the business so that we understand what we are trying to solve for and what the data means
  • Tells stories from data – data analytics is not data dump – it needs to be meaningful and intuitive to the end user in order to realize the inherent business value
  • Challenges the status quo – the state of business and the field of data analytics are constantly evolving, and we need to as well. Assumptions and old ways of doing things are open season, as long as you bring along workable and relevant solutions articulated in a professional manner. Proactively pursue and learn about new data sets, analytical tools and methodologies to solve problems in new and innovative ways.
  • Is good at problem solving – someone who can “connect the dots”, and have a logical and methodical way to tackle new and complex problems
  • Takes pride in your work – your work is diligent and thorough and you are proud of your reputation for high-quality and reliable work
  • Is a quick study – the successful candidate must be curious, resourceful, and dig into the weeds to ask the right questions and figure things out independently
  • Is a good communicator – someone who is polished and can communicate effectively with external parties such as data providers as well as internal legal team to ensure legal terms and conditions related to the data are fully flushed out and aligns with Teranet standards.



About You


  • will have a Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field: Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering
  • will have a minimum 5 years of work experience in the Data Analytics field, with 2 years in a people management role
  • will have knowledge of AI and Big Data concepts and technologies
  • will have knowledge of querying tools and languages
  • Proficient in using data visualization tools (Tableau), other BI tools (PowerBI), and Excel
  • will have Project Management experience
